Just like the subject line says, I'm looking for midwife recommendations. Have you had a positive or negative experience with a local midwife? I'm looking at the midwives listed for Travis county on the Association of Texas Midwives web site
and trying to narrow down the list of contenders. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, I am new here and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Robin and I am 36. I am expecting my first child (a boy) at the end of August.
Lately I have been having some inner thigh soreness/stiffness and difficulty moving easily from a sitting to a standing/walking position. Has anyone else had this problem at 7 months?

Any parents here with 3 and 4 year olds? (cross posted austincommunity)
My daughter takes a 2 hour creative movement class at Austin Dance Arts, right next to the old Mervyn's, and in the shopping ctr w/ Toys R Us off of B.White).
There is a Monday and a Thursday class, and I recently switched her over to the Thursday class. Both are for 3 and 4 year olds.
The class is small right now and Dana Lewis the dance instructor is looking for more kiddos to join!
It's free to try the first class. The class is from 10-12 p.m. on Thursdays. It includes: tap, ballet, gymnastics, and theater work
The class is really needing to grow!! My daughter loves the teacher and loves the class.

Anyone have two dozen or so prefolds they're willing to part with fairly cheap? Or know something in town where I can get some?
A friend of mine is about to pop and wants to use clothe diapers, but has onyl been able to find the yucky gerber ones with the polyester padding in the middle. Those are just horrible and I don't think she'll last long using them so was hoping to get her something a bit more absorbant.

Question on baby carriers
I have lost my Maya wrap. I have no idea where it is. I am in the market for a carrier that would be appropriate for activities as well. I'm very interested in the baby bjorn. Does anyone have any experience with this one. It's rather expensive, but I need something soon.
With the bjorn you can't nurse like a sling--though I'm hoping my sling will show up--but I could take my son walking in it while pushing daughter in the jogging stroller.
The tandem stroller I have is absolutely HORRIBLE for the road and sidewalk. What do you all think? Anyone like brisk walks and want to join me sometime? I exercise at they gym everyday, but my daughter loves the walks, and I just love my heart rate to accelerate so I can do a walk anytime but better with more involved.

I am a single mother to two young boys, ages 5 and 2. I am also a full-time employee (IT Project Manager) and a grad student (MLA program at St. Edward’s University, Austin, TX). I am performing an ethnographic study of single mothers in order to understand how single mothers experience single motherhood. I am speaking with members of the Single Parent Resource Network and Austin Single Parent Organization here in Austin, as well as individual single mothers both in and outside of Austin who are a part of online communities.
I am interviewing single moms on topics of general interest to single moms. This survey will be used to gather data about the varying and common experiences of single mothers in contemporary American society in order to describe and better understand the culture of single motherhood. Once the study is complete, I will post it online and all who participated will be able to provide feedback on the general tone and nature of the study and its presentation.( If you are interested in participating...Collapse )
PLEASE PARTICIPATE!! One of the things I have found is that SINGLE MOTHER'S VOICES ARE LARGELY IGNORED EVEN AS THE PROBLEMS THAT ARE BLAMED ON US GO WIDELY REPORTED! Help make your voice heard!!x-posted like whoa

Parenting Information Survey
(many times x-posted, thank you for the indulgence)
I'd like to solicit your help in my information architecture mentoring project. I'm designing a new source of parenting information, and to that end, I've posted a survey that I hope will help guide me throughout the rest of my project. Please fill it out if you like, and spread this link to any parent you know who might be interested in giving me their opinions on good/bad sources of parenting information.

Did anyone take the Birthing from Within class? I'm taking it in August. I have the book and love the philosophy and wondered if anyone had their experiences to share.
